The CFO of Sony, Hiroki Totoki, announced today during a conference call for investors, all necessary chipsets the company to reach SP5 sales target this year have already been secured, managing concerns about the current shortage of semiconductors.
During the same conference call, Totoki-san confirmed that the objective of current sales for this fiscal year is set at 14.8 million units SP5, which should bring total sales of SP5 consoles since its release about 22.6 million units.
It is worth mentioning that Sony has recently celebrated its milestone, selling 10 million units SP5 in less than a year since its release, making the SP5 the best selling console of all time, beating the record of the PS4.
The SP5 has so far retained its content user base with new generation exclusives like Astro's Playroom, Demon's Souls Remastered, AllStars Destruction and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart.
We still do not know what the company plans for the future of the SP5, as it was recently announced that all PlayStation exclusives expected to come, such as the next God of War and Forbidden Horizon West also come out on PS4. Not to mention the rumors surrounding the next game Horizon joining God of War being postponed to 2022.
