Welcome to my guide to soloing Warmane Black Temple as a Monk. Firstly I know there is a Monk soloing thread, but I thought this deserved its thread because it is quite large and would be awkwardly placed halfway down a random page in the thread. I am writing this guide because I remember being frustrated when I couldn't find a proper guide to doing this, so I have created one myself.
Soloing as a Monk
Killing the bosses only requires a small rotation change. Just use Expel Harm when you are injured instead of Jab when possible (which you should be already) and use your Tier 2 talent on cooldown if healing is needed. I strongly recommend Chi Wave for soloing as it provides the single target healing.
Why solo Black Temple?
While there are many reasons to solo Black Temple, such as the achievement or just seeing it, the main two reasons are the transmogrification blindfold Cursed Vision of Sargares and the twin Legendaries, the Warglaives of Azzinoth. Unfortunately, since the Monk is a recent class there are no tier sets to collect from here, but they let us have the Warglaives, so who cares.
Required Specialisations and iLvl
You only need the Windwalker Specialisation for soloing the instance now. My item level when soloing this was 468, which I achieved through a few LFR pieces, heroics, and worse gear. Most of which is un-reforged, and is wholly Ungemmed and unenchanted. With proper reforges, gems and enchants as well as flasks, potions, etc. I could see this being people with maybe 440 iLvl, but probably no less than that. My recommended iLvl would be 455+.
Where is the Black Temple?
First of all head to Outlands. If you don't know how to get there just look for the portal to Shattrath City in your Pandaria city portal hub. Then head over to Shadowmoon Valley, it is circled by a red circle.
Next head to the far East side of the zone, once again the Red circle guides you!
And finally one you get the temple, you will notice the temple is shaped like a sideways U. While facing the temple, on the right end of the ground floor, which is approximately the center of the red circle in the 2nd image, you will find a small crack in the wall. This is the entrance to Black Temple.
Foreword before the Boss Guides
This instance is not linear however there are no optional bosses, don't even bother trying to skip any. I have included maps because it can be easy to get lost in here on your first time.
High Warlord Naj'entus
Difficulty: 1/10
This boss is simple, just use your cooldowns and kill him quickly. If you are too slow, he will use a shield and be immune to damage for a short time, just wait it out then kill him.
Supremus
Difficulty: 2/10
Just like High Warlord Naj'entus, but with a little more damage and much less strict DPS requirements as there is no shield. Just don't stand in his blue flame, punch him for a while, and he falls over dead.
Shade of Akama
Difficulty 1/10
Easiest boss in here. When you enter the room ignore the Stealthed Akama for now. Just kill the trash packs in the room. However, you are unable to kill the six channelers on top of the stairs yet. Go back to Akama near the entrance and talk to him. Then just run up to the six channels and kill them, they die very quickly. Kill any adds that spawned and wait for the Shade to walk to Akama. Once he gets there, they begin a bout of fisticuffs. Kill the Shade and collect loot.
Teron Gorefiend
Difficulty 2/10
Just like Supremus, punch him and collect loot.
Reliquary of Souls
Difficulty 3/10
Note: From here on out you can talk to the guy shortly after entering the instance that I forgot the name of, I will update this bit next time I go there. He will teleport you to the main room outside where you fight the Shade of Akama.
Since 5.1 this boss is no longer a challenge. You will be unable to heal yourself while killing the first head, but you shouldn't drop low anyway. Once it does AoE, the spirit adds and they will treat you when they die. Once the 2nd head comes out just DPS him and when possible interrupt Spirit Shock. Note that when he has the damage absorbing shield up you cannot suspend him, but only heal any damage you take and kill him. Once again AoE spirits then shoot the final head. It deals increasing Damage to you, but the Damage should not ramp up to start hurting before it dies.
Gurtogg Bloodboil
Difficulty 7/10
This is probably the biggest gear check in the instance, as he does a stacking DoT on attacks that will ramp up in damage towards the end. Just pop all your cooldowns and use Expel Harm and Chi Wave on cooldown. Remember you have Fortifying Brew if you need it, and Touch of Karma will be a lifesaver, save it for towards the end when you are low hp and just let the boss slice himself up.
(Submitted by DemoBytom) If you are unable to meet the DPS requirements, you can try it as Brewmaster using a similar strategy to Reliquary of Souls. Have your statue down next to you, and after a while, he will disorient you and swap to the figure. If you are lucky, he will cast Fel Rage on you, which doubles your healing and quadruples your damage. Just tear him apart when this happens.
Mother Shahraz
Notable Trash: The large groups of low health Blood Elves will mind control you and reset themselves if you don't kill them quickly. You will be able to Kill them in a couple of spinning crane kick ticks, but don't run around with them chasing you all day, just kill them immediately.
Difficulty 3/10
The boss herself is quite easy. Make sure you pull the patrolling Sisters of Pain and Pleasure that circle her before grabbing her, so they don't get in your way. Just kill her. Her damage output is surprisingly high, but nothing life-threatening. You should be fine.
Illidari Council
Difficulty 7/10 . . . Specialization: Windwalker or Brewmaster
This fight is about as challenging in numbers requirements as Gurtogg Bloodboil. The four members share a health pool, so don't worry about which one to attack. Lady Malande casts Circle of Healing semi-often. Interrupt this as much as possible. They will often bubble each other making themselves immune to Physical or Magical damage, depending on the bubble. If they make the healer resistant to Physical damage you can't interrupt her and just have to let it go off, it doesn't heal that much. Try to stay out of the Flamestrike, Blizzard and Consecrate as their damage is significant if you stay in them for a while, but a short dip is excellent. Remember Touch of Karma and Fortifying Brew if you get too low. If they are in Touch with Death range, you can use it, but it won't kill them. The one you use it on will drop to 1 hp then re-split their health with the remaining others. It is still worth using, but don't expect the fight to end when you use it. Once these guys drop you have a free ride to the end, Illidan is cake.
Don't worry if you die; they appear to be bugged in that after you pull them for a 2nd attempt, they will drop to the hp they were on when you killed the 1st time, so you can eventually just brute force it anyway.
Illidan
Before you proceed up the ramp talk to Akama in the room where you fought the council, he will open the door at the top of the ramp.
Once you get to the rooftop where Illidan is talking to Akama again to begin the fight.
Difficulty 4/10
Simple fight. Just attack him until around 70% where he will lift off into the air and drop his Warglaives on either side of the grate. Save your cooldowns for now, as this is the hardest part of a natural fight. Burn down one of the elementals that spawn, then quickly get rid of the 2nd. The incoming damage will be surprisingly spikey, but with cooldowns, it will be over soon. If you tank the two elementals in the middle of their grate where they are equidistant from the Warglaives they will not enrage and will do much less damage. This makes this phase just as easy as the rest of the fight (Thanks, DemoBytom). Once they are both destroyed, he will land again and just start whacking him. Around 30% he will stun you for 30 seconds and do a bit of talking. When it wears off just finish him off, the incoming damage will be no problem. After a reasonably long death animation, he will fall over dead and collect your loot. Good luck on the Blindfold or Glaives!
Conclusion
Thanks for reading and I hope this guide has helped you get through Black Temple. I may make more guides in the future if this proves popular. I will keep a tally of my total Illidan kills before both Glaives at the bottom for fun. If you have any additional tips, constructive criticism or questions feel free to post them below, and I will get back to you as soon as I can. Have fun!
